KEVIN
Name: Kevin Heng

Description:
Slightly chubby but good-natured, Kevin’s quite a character in our canoeing team. He’s good-natured, has a sense of humour, and also this amazing ability to start a conversation about anything under the sun (maybe over it as well)! In fact, he’s talked about so much, I can’t actually remember any of it! But I do know I enjoyed those conversations during which he expressed his rather intriguing sentiments and shared all his jokes. Another curious fact about Kevin is that
he learnt Japanese simply from watching Anime! Neat, eh? Though how he can achieve such a thing, I have no clue…guess it goes to show you can succeed if you really put your heart to it. Right, Kevin? (COUGH*BIO*COUGH) Right?
Back in Sec 1 and Sec 2, we actually bullied the poor dude. Yea, it wasn’t kind of us, mainly because we ridiculed him for things he couldn’t help, but hey, now we’re in our right senses. He’s not really that bad, and he’s actually nice company. If he’s got his
faults, so do we all. Plus he’s one of us canoeists; he’s part of the team.
So all in all, Kevin’s a cool, friendly guy who talks a lot, but then again, that’s who he is!
P.S. Kevin has trained pretty hard this year (and has got attendance to show for it), but he didn't make the first team, unfortunately. No matter, mate, next year, go for it!

JOEL
Name: Joel Low
Class: 435'09
Birthday: 16th October
Description:
Joel started his life in SJI in the class of 105. Shy and quiet at first, he slowly became much more open to his peers, cracking up the funniest jokes with the team and his mates. He started off canoeing really well, an impressive t1 rower, being one of the first few who were able to do pull ups, doing an incredible amount of pushups for a sec 1! He wowed many seniors too, but of course, Joel never let that get into his head, he continues striving for the best.
In Secondary 2, Joel was partnered with Ze Jie in a t2 boat, a huge, wide annoying boat, but nevertheless, Joel had always been there to encourage Ze Jie to push on, not only did he encourage his partner, Joel was one of the motivational forces behind the team, encouraging every single one of them. The two of them then went on to win 2nd in the t2-500m event.
Joel has since moved on to a more streamlined, state of the art, Nelo C1, or Nelo C2.
Joel has a strong sense of determination, a 'never say die' attitude, a great, trustworthy buddy who'll never fail to cheer his peers up when they're down. Another joker in the team, who'll never fail to bring about laugher during benchpress PT. PLUS, Joel's a really fantastic cuber, being able to solve the rubik's cube in around less than 20 or 15 seconds, what a feat! He is also able to really strike a balance in studies, canoeing and CUBING!
Joel, never failing to impress others with his muscles and cubing skills, is a treaure to the SJI canoeing team. Challenge him in speed cubing if you dare, be warned!

JAVINN
Name: Javinn Wong Kai Jian
Class: 336/3G1-2
DOB: 10th June (same as Ferns!)
Javinn was a quiet boy in sec 1 and 2 and continued to be pretty silent and if it wasn’t for the fact that he was in canoeing I may not have even noticed him(nah, just kidding). Always seen with his trademark poker face, Javinn rarely smiles but when he does, you feel like you’ve made the night become day or climbed the highest peak or touched the clouds with your bare hands or made pigs fly (hehe). Lucky we have a picture of him smiling on the main page. Though Javinn rarely replies to attempts to start conversations if he chooses to, he has a really good sense of humour but he only laughs at jokes of good quality (mine...XD joking). However, once the word ‘DotA’ is mentioned, out comes the reservoir of knowledge and experience from playing the game. There are only three things that Javinn does on the bus: 1. stone or 2. talk (seldom unless it’s DotA) or 3. Read. However if you are lucky, he just might crack a joke or two and trust me they are LAME! (But funny nonethelessJ).
Javinn is an exceptional C1 rower and he was and still is the reason that I continue to work so hard (cos I wanna outdo him :D). Javinn has a lot of talent for rowing and is a real natural at rowing. In fact, Javinn was the first few canoeists that coach chose as he had a knack for C boat rowing. Javinn currently is using the more streamlined Nelo C1, a pleasant change from the sluggish Boris Two. Although he hasn’t turned up for many trainings this year, he was still able to row at an amazing pace despite the rustiness. Though Javinn did not manage to compete in this year’s competitions, we all do hope that you would strive and make it to the first team next year Javinn! You can win it!

ZE JIE
Class: 423'09
Birthday: 14 June
Description:
When ZJ first entered SJI, many of the pupils in class 105 thought that he was a gangster at first. However, he soon proved everyone wrong about his pai kia nature and warmed up to the class very quickly.
A loyal and genial person, ZJ has never failed to stand up for what he feels is right. ZJ is always willing to help a friend in need and will do the best he can to assist them. He constantly gives encouragement to spur the team on to do better and aim higher. He is also a brave person who is not afraid to stand his ground to defend himself from being wrongly blamed.
Apart from being such a great friend, he is also full of Extremely lame jokes and is always thinking of new ones to crack them to the team and other 
friends.
ZJ is currently rowing with Qin Hong in a K2, “graduating” from the sluggishly heavy T2 that he shared with Joel, in which they won 2nd place in the Canoeing Nationals. Very much like the rest of the team, ZJ has changed tremendously, from a small boy who couldn’t do a single pull-up to a small boy with huge biceps and managing 20 pull-ups easily =D. Though short and stocky, ZJ is perpetually full of energy and forgives others easily. He is also a self-proclaimed “console prodigy” and totally owns in Dead Or Alive on Xbox, so you can pit your skills against him if you dare.
A joker with a head full of tall hair, ZJ will always be remembered by the times when he shaved his head into the infamous “ex-con” hair-do. XD

FEN YIT
Name: Fen Yit
Fen Yit had always aspired to become a canoeist ever since he joined SJI. He appealed and was accepted. He was a slow learner at the start. While everyone was using the Bracsa paddle, he was still using the beginner's paddle. But Fen Yit worked hard. Everyday, he would do his personal training at home, and gradually, he became stronger and stronger and stronger! He specialises in K1, and got second place for the Inter-school Canoeing Competition in 2007.
Much has changed ever since Fen Yit came into SJI. He shaved, grew a full head of hair, and grew slightly taller. He is currently in class 3G2-1 and is very competitive in his studies. He is also the CCA rep of the class and is highly respected by his classmates.

It was the first day of school. An almost bald, moustached, small boy entered the classroom of 102. His name was Fen Yit. Often, his classmates would avoid him for he often had the "stay away from me or i'll beat you up" kind of look on his face. But after a while, many found him approachable and a humorous person. Be warned, Fen Yit has mood swings.

CLEON
Name: Cleon Ho
Class: 435'09
Birthday: 30-Sep-1993
Description:
Cleon started his life in SJI in class 102. He was one of the first few who was selected to join Canoeing. It was from here that he began his post as the team Joker, who has a unique sense of humor. Smart and quick-witted, Cleon rarely loses in an argument. So don't mess with him! But don't worry, Cleon is a relatively friendly and approachable person.
Deep down, Cleon is someone who cares for others and never hesitates to help his friends when they have difficulties. During the holidays, he often invites his teammates over to his house for a match of Halo or simply for a game of blind mice. Some know him better for his halo skills, which is quite good.

Xin Yang, who was previously from St Michael's, entered SJI into class 102. He was quiet, but with enough time, became actively involved in class activities and his CCA. He was voted to become the sec 2's Vice Captain in 2006. Xin Yang is a very caring person who always puts others before himself. The sacrifices he has made to the team and his friends are great. Xin Yang is also a very understanding person and you will rarely find him angry. So if he is angry, something is terribly wrong. Xin Yang can also get rather.... weird at times too, in an irritating way. Xin

RYAN
Name: Ryan Cheng
Class: 435'09
Birthday: 24-May-1993
Description:
Energetic and somehow always with a smile on his face, Ryan Cheng has indeed a remarkable personality. Beneath that cheery, fun exterior, lies his rock-hard determination. Besides being the first guy I know who weighs 80kg and is able to do 10 pull-ups, he never says no to obstacles and keeps striving to be better at what he does.
In Sec Two, only a few months before the competition, he injured himself horribly. He fell near
some steps and drains, and his knee was practically sliced open. He actually had to be hospitalized for a few days and his knee had to be stitched. He had to move about on crutches. He couldn’t run for the next month or so. He had to stop training. Yet, he never lost hope. He acknowledged the fact that he’d be incapable of physical exercise, but only for a while. Once his crutches could be removed, he immediately started weights training. He eventually progressed into canoeing trainings once more, and now, he trained harder than ever. In the Inter-school championships, he and his partner, Peter, came in 4th , and considering his circumstances, I’d say that’s a feat.
When you meet Ryan in person, you think he’s just another typical, ordinary guy. When you look back at all he’s done, you realize he’s actually accomplished a whole lot under your nose without you even knowing it, and you start to appreciate him a whole lot more. Even if he gets a little carried away and annoying at times, who cares??! We love the bubbly nut. We love him for his being fun, cheerful, supportive, peaceable, and for a whole lot more stuff which isn’t reflected here.
